Michael Chanov Named Director of Ecotoxicology Laboratory

Hunt Valley, Maryland (15 September 2017)—EA Engineering, Science, and Technology, Inc., PBC (EA), a leading provider of interdisciplinary environmental services, announced today that Michael (Mike) Chanov has been promoted to Director, Ecotoxicology Laboratory, and that Wayne McCulloch has retired after serving in that position for 36 years.

To ensure a smooth transition, Mike has been working alongside Wayne as Assistant Director since August 2014. During this time, he has provided management support on all aspects of operating and managing the laboratory. Well prepared to serve as Director, Mike will be responsible for supervising general workflow, developing testing strategies, and interpreting results. In addition, he will oversee quality control, pricing, and day-to-day laboratory functions.

“Mike joined EA in 2009 and quickly demonstrated his technical acumen and management ability,” said Jeff Boltz, Ph.D., Vice President and Director, Water Natural Resources Business Unit. “I am excited for him to take over this leadership role and have full confidence that, under his direction, EA’s Ecotoxicology Laboratory will continue to grow by providing the most reliable data and exceptional service to our clients.”

“Wayne has been an outstanding member of our team and his contributions to EA have been fundamental to our growth and success,” added Ian MacFarlane, President and Chief Executive Officer. “We wish Wayne the very best in retirement and look forward to Mike taking on this role. Mike shares Wayne’s passion for the science and our clients, and he is the right person to build upon Wayne’s accomplishments.”

With over 11 years of experience in conducting and managing toxicology testing, Mike has conducted hundreds of toxicity evaluations with wastewater, sediment, and surface water. He is active in several professional organizations, including the Maryland Environmental Laboratory Association and Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry. In addition, Mike actively participates on ASTM International Committee E50 on Environmental Assessment, Risk Management, and Corrective Action, and the National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Conference Whole Effluent Toxicity Testing Expert Committee. He holds both Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Biological Sciences from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, popularly known as Virginia Tech.
