EA’s Continued Growth Spurs Key Finance and Accounting Department Appointments

Hunt Valley, Maryland (8 September 2017)—EA Engineering, Science, and Technology, Inc., PBC (EA), a leading provider of interdisciplinary environmental services, announced today a series of promotions and appointments within its Corporate Finance and Accounting Department to better serve EA stakeholders in response to the company’s continued growth.

Peter Ney

Under the new company structure, company veteran Steve Kuhr, Vice President and Corporate Controller, succeeded Peter Ney as Chief Financial Officer (CFO). This transition will enable Peter to focus on strategic planning initiatives, EA’s 100% ESOP ownership structure, and corporate governance activities as he continues to serve the company as Senior Vice President, Treasurer, and as a member of the Board of Directors. In addition, Peter will provide executive guidance to EA’s Finance and Accounting team. A member of EA’s senior management team since 2001, Peter holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland and a Bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College.

Steve Kuhr, CPA

As CFO, Steve Kuhr, CPA, will report to EA’s Board of Directors with respect to financial audits and compliance, and lead the Finance and Accounting functions at the company. In addition, the leaders of the internal operations centers of information technology, financial systems, procurement, and facilities will continue to report to him. Steve served as EA’s Corporate Controller for the past 16 years, a period of consistent growth for the firm. Steve holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Seton Hall University and a Master of Science degree in Engineering/Management of Technology from Penn Engineering and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Jason Echelle

Jason Echelle, who became a Vice President earlier this year, has been appointed Controller of EA. As Controller, Jason will manage EA’s financial reporting and corporate accounting operations, and assume supervisory responsibilities for EA’s regional accounting function, as well as audit and compliance leadership. Jason has over 21 years of finance and accounting experience, and has been employed by EA for more than 16 years. Jason earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Finance from West Liberty State College.

Rick Barron, CPA

Rick Barron, CPA, was elevated to the position of Accounting and Tax Manager. In this role, Rick will take the lead for EA’s financial audits, directly managing general ledger and accounts payable processes, fixed assets, and lease accounting responsibilities. Rick has been at EA for 17 years, where he has been dedicated to the company’s banking duties and month-end close process, and has been integral to the company maintaining its consistently high standards for tax filings and audits. Rick earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Towson University.

Candice LaFleur, CPA

Additionally, Candice LaFleur, CPA, has been promoted to Accounting Supervisor. Her new responsibilities will include DCAA reporting, fiscal budgeting, oversight of the project administration process, as well as government property inventory compliance and reporting. In her 7 years with EA, Candice has spearheaded important initiatives to streamline existing processes and developed innovative systems for budgeting, cost proposals, and business licensing and registration tracking and monitoring. Candice is a graduate of Stevenson University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.

“This reorganization affirms EA’s commitment to promote from within, and provide those who have demonstrated their capability and dedication with increased responsibility and opportunity,” stated Ian MacFarlane, President and Chief Executive Officer. “I firmly believe that EA is well-positioned for continued growth and long-term success, thanks to the depth and capability of this talented team.”
