EA Engineering, Science, and Technology, Inc., PBC Awarded U.S. Army Technology Demonstration Contract for Thermal Desorption of Agent Contaminated Soils
Hunt Valley, Maryland (9 September 2016)—EA Engineering, Science, and Technology, Inc., PBC (EA), a leading provider of interdisciplinary environmental services, announced today that it has been awarded a competitive contract for the testing of thermal desorption technology to remediate simulated mustard agent contaminated soils. This technology demonstration project was awarded by Army Contracting Command–Rock Island, and is being executed by the Joint Project Manager–Elimination as an element of the Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical and Biological Defense. With a 1-year period of performance, this cost-plus-fixed-fee base contract has a maximum value of $937,138.
Under this contract, EA (with its technology partners, TD*X Associates [TD*X] and El Dorado Engineering [EDE]) will demonstrate and verify the performance of a mobile indirect thermal desorption system to remediate soils contaminated with a simulant for the chemical agent mustard. Once proven to meet the government requirements for chemical destruction, removal efficiency, and emissions control, the government may elect to exercise a contract option to purchase a purpose-built unit.
Specific to the technology demonstration, the EA Team is tasked with developing a detailed test plan, conducting verification testing, validating all results, and providing proof of performance. In addition, the technology demonstration will provide data applicable to the design, construction, and operation of a full-scale unit.
“We appreciate this opportunity to support the Department of Defense’s demilitarization efforts, while ensuring the maximum protection to the environment, general public, and personnel involved in the destruction effort,” stated Brenda Herman, P.G., Vice President and Army Program Manager. “Utilizing the specialized expertise of our teaming partners, and given that indirect thermal desorption is a mature technology that can be permitted under RCRA Subpart X, EA is confident that this technology demonstration will be a success.”
