EA's Founder and Chairman, Loren Jensen, Ph.D., Receives the Alumnus of the Year Award from the University of Utah's College of Science
Hunt Valley, Maryland (19 October 2012)—EA Engineering, Science, and Technology, Inc. (EA), a leading provider of interdisciplinary environmental services, has announced that its founder and chairman, Loren Jensen, Ph.D., has been honored as the first recipient of the University of Utah’s College of Science Alumnus of the Year Award.
This award was presented at the annual College of Science Alumni Reception, which was part of the University’s recent Homecoming Week activities in Salt Lake City. The agenda also included the Biology Department’s BIOluminaries Seminar Series, which featured Dr. Jensen’s presentation for students, faculty, and alumni entitled Cultural Values that I Believe are Essential to the Success of Interdisciplinary Organizations.
A senior scientist and business executive who founded   EA as   Ecological Analysts, Inc. in   1973, Dr. Jensen was selected for this award in recognition of his four decades of leadership at EA, managing and analyzing environmental concerns for a wide range of government and industrial clients. Loren earned his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. at the University of Utah, all in Biology.
“EA opened for business as a small, part-time venture run from a single office,” Dr. Jensen recalls. “The original staff consisted of a few fisheries biologists helping electrical utilities achieve compliance with new environmental regulations. The challenge before us then was the same as it is now: to make a business out of science without compromising the principles or inherent ground rules of either.” Through the years, the company has achieved that goal by completing more than 100,000 projects and performing more than $1.5 billion of services worldwide. Today, after 39 years of continuous operation, EA employs more than 400 professionals through a nationwide network of 20 offices, providing its clients with environmental, compliance, natural resources, and infrastructure engineering and management solutions.
“It was a privilege for me to introduce Dr. Jensen as our College of Science 2012 Alumnus of the Year,” noted Dr. Neil J. Vickers, Chair of the University’s Department of Biology. “His decades of accomplishment serve as a model for our students on how to succeed in their chosen profession and prepare themselves to enjoy successful, interesting, and fulfilling careers.” Ian MacFarlane, EA’s President and Chief Executive Officer, added, “It would be an understatement to say that Loren’s many professional achievements make him well-deserving of this recognition. It has long been an honor for those of us at EA to work with him and share in his legacy of success.”
