EA Engineering, Science, and Technology, Inc. Certified to Conduct Whole Effluent Toxicity Testing in West Virginia

Hunt Valley, Maryland (10 February 2011)—EA Engineering, Science, and Technology, Inc. (EA), a leading provider of environmental, engineering, and program/construction management services, announced today that its state-of-the-art Ecotoxicology Laboratory in Sparks, Maryland, is now certified under the state program administered by the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Water and Waste Management.

“Achieving this certification is critical because it enables EA to serve our mining industry clients in obtaining and complying with National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permits for their discharges,” said Ian MacFarlane, EA’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “EA toxicologists, regulatory specialists, and wastewater engineers will work closely with our West Virginia clients to cost-effectively identify and resolve industrial, municipal, and stormwater toxicity issues.”

EA has long supported clients by performing acute and chronic toxicity testing with a variety of freshwater and saltwater vertebrate and invertebrate test species in full compliance with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and state regulatory guidelines. Wayne McCulloch, EA’s Ecotoxicology Laboratory Director, added “EA has tested samples from 48 U.S. states and territories, and we’re very proud of our record of success in identifying the specific causes of toxicity.”

In addition to individual state certifications, EA’s laboratory is nationally certified through the National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Conference (NELAC) and is equipped to provide maximum flexibility for customizing ecotoxicology testing programs to meet clients’ needs, while ensuring that all regulatory requirements are satisfied.
